Omega History
Omega Psi Phi
Founded at Howard University, November 17, 1911
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was founded by three Howard University undergraduates — Edgar Amos Love, Oscar James Cooper, and Frank Coleman — under the guidance of their faculty adviser, Dr. Ernest Everett Just.
From the Greek letters from which the name is derived comes the fraternity's motto:
"Friendship is essential to the soul."

1911
Omega Psi Phi Founded
Founded at Howard University on November 17 — the first international Greek-letter fraternity founded at a historically Black college.
1964
Pi Rho Chartered
Pi Rho Chapter was chartered on August 7 in San Bernardino, California, expanding Omega's reach into the Inland Empire.
1980s
Omega Programs Expand
Chapter launches the Talent Hunt, Memorial Service, and early scholarship fundraisers.
2000s
Pi Rho Chapter Community Roots Deepen
Academic Bowl, Fatherhood Initiative, and Health Initiative become cornerstones of chapter work.
2024
60 Years of Service
Pi Rho celebrates six decades of uplift across Riverside, San Bernardino, and surrounding communities.

Legacy Spotlight
Dr. L. Benjamin Livingston
A pillar of Pi Rho Chapter and an enduring example of the Omega creed in action. Dr. Livingston's lifetime of scholarship, mentorship, and service continues to shape the Brothers and the community he loved.
His legacy lives on in every scholarship awarded, every young man mentored, and every act of uplift carried out in his name.
